VIC HIGH STUDENTS HONOURED AT FALL AWARDS CEREMONY
In December, Alumni members Ruth Ferne, Don
Kissinger and Keith McCallion attended the school’s
Fall Awards Ceremony. On behalf of the Alumni,
they presented cheques totalling $7100 to thirteen
outstanding students. The awards recognized
their achievements in academics, fine arts,
technical education and athletics. All these
terrific young men and women will use the funds
to further their post-secondary education.
We thank Alumni members for their generous contributions
that make these awards possible
Congratulations to the 2008 Alumni Award winners.

Vic High’s music
program has made us all proud with the
renown of the Rhythm & Blues
Performance Band. This remarkable group of students, under
the direction of teacher Eric Emde, has made a mark for themselves
in Victoria and beyond. Adrian
Chamberlain’s article from the Vancouver
Sun tells how
they took R&B back
to Motown and impressed Martha Reeves enough for her to make
two trips out to Victoria. The second article is Chamberlain’s
review of the concert that Martha
Reeves (PDF 8kb) put on with the Vic
High R&B Band.
Read the article and be
amazed at what is happening in Vic High’s music program. Better yet, take an opportunity
to see these students perform.
The Toronto Globe and Mail’s columnist Roy
MacGregor wrote a fascinating story about one volunteer’s
commitment to Vic High and the difference that he is making
in students’ lives.
